Neurodivergence

Neurodivergence refers to the natural variations in how brains work- such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and more- while neurodiversity is the broader concept that celebrates this variation as part of human diversity.

In my person-centred, integrative, and relational approach, I honour each individual’s way of experiencing the world, adapting therapy to support emotional wellbeing, self-understanding, and growth without pathologising difference.

With a background as a specialist teacher, including years with the Specialist Autism Team, and a specialism in supporting ADHD, I bring both professional and lived experience as a parent of a neurodivergent child. This deep, empathetic insight makes my practice a safe, informed, and affirming space for neurodivergent clients and their families.

Neuroaffirmative

My practice is firmly rooted in a neuroaffirmative ethos, which means I actively recognise and respect neurodivergent ways of thinking, feeling, and relating as valid and valuable- not as deficits to be fixed.

Rather than aiming to change behaviours to “fit in,” I work collaboratively to support self-understanding, emotional well-being, and self-advocacy. This approach is deeply informed by my  Master’s dissertation, titled "Embracing Neurodivergence in Counselling and Psychotherapy: Integrating Neuroaffirmative Practices for Diverse Minds", which explored how therapists can better meet the needs of neurodivergent clients through inclusive, identity-affirming, and relational practice.

Person- Centred

At the heart of my work is the person-centred approach, which allows me to see each client as a whole person- not just a diagnosis or set of behaviours, and equally, not defined by the absence of one.

This approach creates space for clients to be truly heard and seen in the context of their lived experience. I focus on what matters to them- their goals, challenges, and the changes they want to make- working collaboratively to meet their presenting needs with empathy, curiosity, and respect. This holistic, client-led way of working honours each individual's identity, strengths, and autonomy.
